Our Class

A couple weeks ago, Mike and I were called as youth Sunday school teachers.  We have a fairly small ward, so we actually teach all the young men and young women, there are about 20 or so.  It is amazing.  We were SO overwhelmed upon receiving the call, but are learning so much each week.  We have some youth that are going through some tough things, so it is awesome to (hopefully) be an example to them and maybe even teach them something too!  I started bawling during our first lesson we taught, when I told them that being called to be their teacher was an answer to my prayers. Which it was, but it also completely freaked them out.  That's OK... they will learn to love me:)  The very first week we taught, Mike and I wanted to do something special for them. We went to Barnes and Noble Saturday night, and bought each one of them a journal.  Our lesson the next day was about seeing God's hand in all things.  We challenged them each day to write down a way they have seen the Lord's hand, and report to us the next Sunday. We ask them each week to share ways they have seen the Lord's hand in their lives, and it is amazing what they share.  I just love them.  They were so sweet and grateful for the journals, which I was glad about (20 journals can get surprisingly pricey!!)
Last week while I was bearing my testimony to them about agency, I felt very inspired to tell them they can chose to change and turn their lives over to Christ.  I feel like I have completely changed as a person, and am super thankful for the agency I have.  I also told them that I love them--again I think they were freaked out, but it's true! I love them. I never had the opportunity to serve a mission, and in some ways I am jealous of those of my friends who are/going to be missionaries! (shout out to Sister Johnson, Ballif, Safeer, Cox)  Mike always teases that if the age of sisters had been changed a couple of years ago, I could have served a full time mission and still have met Mike when I did! But alas, in some small way (and I know it's small) I feel like a missionary to these kiddos. They listen to us, even when they pretend they aren't and I know I am making a difference in their lives- at least I hope I am.  Now I finally understand the phrase that you love those you serve. love them.

  1. OH my heck, I loved this post. They are so lucky to have you, Meg!

And I KNOW you will touch them in ways only you can, with your Megan light. Callings are inspired, and this is so perfect for you. I'm so excited to hear more about this. :)
