A girl approached me the other day with the biggest grin and happiest eyes, jumping out of the testing center line and running right towards me. She called me by name, first and last, and told me how excited she was to see me. She then went on to explain how she had been silently observing me since ELEMENTARY school when we were in spectrum together. She was a few years younger than me and stated that we went to the same Jr. high and high school. She asked how I was, what I was doing, and if I was still performing. She said that she has seen almost every show I have done and I am one of her role-models. I thanked her profusely and asked about her life. When she left I felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I felt so happy that this cute gal had sought me out of a crowd to tell me how I had influenced her. However, I also felt devastated because to this day I cannot tell you her name or ever recall seeing her before.
This experience has really got me thinking. I started to think of all the people I have silently watched over the years and looked up to as secret role-models. I wonder if they know my name or would recognize my face. It also made me think of all those silently watching me and looking to me as an example. What an influence we can be. I hope I influenced this girl for the better. I hope I will be able to recognize her and say hi if I see her on campus again. Just a thought-- Remember that we are constantly being observed, sometimes by those we do not even know. This experience has taught me two things:
1st--always be someone worthy of looking up to
2nd--tell those who have influenced me (even if they may not know me) that they have touched my life for the better.
So to you cute girl I say... Thank you! You have influenced MY life for the better.
Life is good. God is good. and HE is the best teacher.
