As soon as I found out I was pregnant I was already scheming of ideas how to tell our families. We decided to tell the Derrick clan over Easter/conference weekend as well. Mike's brother's family was going to be in town from California and we figured it was the perfect time to share our exciting secret:)
I had a darling cake made by "Sweet Whimsy Cakes". The owner lives in Kaysville and makes the most amazing cakes! It was covered in Cadbury eggs with the words, "We are EGGspecting" on top of the cake. I was thrilled:) I asked Mike if he thought it was too over-the-top and he responded, "Meg, we are sort of over-the-top people...this is how we announce our babies". <--this guy just gets me... :)

The day before Easter Sunday, the entire Derrick family was gathered to have lunch out back between conference sessions. We ate dinner and for dessert I ran up to get the cake. When we brought it out we told Mike's mom to read the top.... she started reading. then stop. then screamed! It was so cute and just the reaction we were hoping for:) Everyone was so sweet and congratulated us:) BabyD will be lucky #7 grandchild on the Derrick side, but there will be 6 1/2 year gap between him and the closest grandchild. So it is like having a brand new first grandbaby all over again! My in-laws have been so sweet and supportive through the entire process. We currently live with them, so they are excited to have a baby in the house--and we will be happy to have the extra help.
